Meet your hosts, John and Sharleen.

We moved from New Zealand in 1994, with 3 of our 4 teenage children and purchased a small dairy farm in Smithton, on the North-West coast of Tasmania. Two years later we purchased a 1050-acre beef run block at Rocky Cape, halfway between Smithton and Wynyard. We converted this property into a dairy farm, building a new swing over dairy and ancillary buildings for rearing calves and housing farm machinery.

From the original 160 cows that we milked in 1999, numbers gradually increased over the years, as the property was developed. By 2013, cow numbers had reached over 800. After cutting off 200 acres of coastal native vegetation and selling the remaining 850 acres of irrigated dairy pastureland to our son and his wife, we built ourselves a contemporary home by the beach. We enjoy it so much here that we decided to build 2 Retreats for like minded people to enjoy. With our son's farm and the Rocky Cape National Park as our only neighbours, seclusion and solitude abounds.

Bass Straight is to our North and the ever changing coastal views can be mesmerising as can the change in the sounds of waves on the foreshore. Several private beaches are there for our guests to enjoy and it would be rare indeed for them to find footprints in the sand other than their own. With the peace and quiet it can be hard to remember that they are only 2.65 km off the Bass Highway along a bitumen road and down a sealed driveway. There is a service station/store at the Bass Hwy intersection and the Rocky Cape Tavern with restaurant and bottle shop a further 400m away.

We gain much satisfaction in reading the positive guests’ comments after they leave where many thank us for sharing our property with them. If they are happy, we are happy. and with that in mind we try to provide them with a memorable experience.

Experience our retreats for yourself.
